A quick trip to Turkmenistan

Click per ingrandireTurkmenistan is a country still not well known, so, when we were asked to go to the region of Koitendag (on the border with Uzbekistan and Afghanistan) we immediately accepted. So we met (Giovanni Badino, Jose Maria and I) Calaforra on the plane that took us from Istanbul to the capital Ashgabat.
Here, with 15 other colleagues who came from other parts of the world, we have been taken in charge by the staff of Dr Poliadov (UNESCO Turkmenistan) and from that moment we had to think in nothing: everything had been organized in every detail.

Closed an expedition, go on another one

Click per ingrandireWith yesterday’s last arrivals, the Chiapas 2012 expedition ended. This time the adventure involved 41 participants: 27 Italians, 4 Mexicans, 9 Costa Rican, 1 Spaniard. Also a group of Americans joined us, we are collaborating to study the hydrogeology of the area.

Let’s summarize the activities accomplished:

Poker of explorations

Click per ingrandireThe four teams keep on working in Chiapas and have a lot of news…

The team of Nueva Jerusalem has explored many pits and, finally, the Cueva San Vicente on the Rio. Unfortunately, after only 350 meters it closes with a huge siphon. The galleries before are huge, too. Maybe, soon or later, we would decide to explore it with underwater techniques, due to its dimension.

The team working at the Florida has explored and mapped the Castillo-Florida system for 5 kilometers (now it’s the second most important of the Rio La Venta area) and 2 more kilometers in other caves. In these last days the explorations are centering on a new system that promises other great developments.

First news from “Chiapas April 2012” expedition

Click per ingrandireArrived after a long journey in Chiapas, we gathered in Cintalapa, Italians, Spaniards, Mexicans, Costa Rican and Americans.
Two of us met some days ago at a descent in Rio la Venta to draw a more accurate map of the springs. Others have been here since many days to survey some new indication of caves and two new places where, soon, a pre-expedition will be organized (one on the Selva del Mercadito and one on the Altos of Chiapas).

Suddenly we split into three teams.

Ready to leave again!

LE prime ricognizioniIn a few days most participants to the April expedition in Chiapas are leaving. Two small groups have already left a few days ago to begin the surveys and are sending us great news!

A first survey was made in the Santa Maria zone, near Rio Negro; the road is good and the information collected on the situation of the place seems favorable to a further approach.
A second survey was made in Bochil (in the Luis Espinosa colony, 2000 hectares of mountains!!!) on the altos: a friendly welcome and a sudden indication of several caves; a first permission of the authorities of the colony was obtained, and an appointment for an explanatory and propositional speech for the people. Another survey was made in the inner colonies in the Selva Mercadito.

Views on the colors of the dark

Click per ingrandireAlso La Venta speleological exploration at the Vittoriano, in Rome, came to its end.
As all self-respecting pits, this exploration has a temporary end, with a question mark that shows new in-depth explorative possibilities. Over 50 thousand visitors of all nationalities crowded the exhibition hall and followed (obviously to a lesser extent) the thematic conferences, where we gave room to deeper analyses and confrontations.
