Francesco Sauro, Young Laureate of the Rolex Awards for EnterpriseWith the Project on the Amazonian Tepui Cesco (Francesco Sauro)has obtained one of the highest awards in the world for exploration, the Rolex Award for Enterprise. This award is assigned from 1976 by a jury composed by 8 different scientists from various countries to "Five visionaries who are changing the world." Until now, the candidates have been 30500 from 190 different countries and only 135 people have received it. These figures already explain the importance of this award. Imawarì Yeuta: a journey in the largest cave system in quartzites of the world

Forest of columns in the Ramo del Sangre (Blood branch)After more than a year from the discovery of Imawarì Yeuta, ("the house where dwell the Gods" in the indigenous Pemon Kamarakoto language) it is time do a resume of this project and of the exceptional results obtained, despite the great logistical difficulties faced in this remote corner of Venezuela.

The reopening of the explorations in the Auyan Tepui massif dates back to February 2009 when, during an flight, a large partially collapsed entrance was spotted by the pilot Raul Arias. The subsequent speleological exploration, carried out right in the following weeks, and a light expedition in March 2010, revealed the first large horizontal cave discovered on the plateau, the Cueva Guacamaya, characterized by exceptional mineralization of opal and amorphous silica.

LAst TANG in Ranchito

Chiapas 2014And also this year ends the expedition in Chiapas. 3 weeks full of excitement even before of cave. 21 days lived in friendship among ourselves and with all the Mexicans we interacted with. The results were remarkable as ever. Chiapas always offers new discoveries and endless reports that could fill dozens of future expeditions. Not for nothing has a huge percentage of karst areas in relation to the territory.
To end in a beautiful way we moved to the "Ranchito", the Reserve that our association from years owns, maintains and enhances on the left bank of the Rio La Venta. And where with the project "Viva la Ceiba" we try to restore the forest to its original and primitive state. The results are beginning to show. The wildlife is repopulating in step with the re-growth of trees typical of this area.
Two latest caves. The Cueva Ejdal at the colony Lopez Mateos and the Cueva del Naranjo within the reserve. Outputs made ??of laughter and jokes.
But even of arrangement of ropes and lots of photos.

Macondo e altre storie

Chiapas 2014. Lessons.

L'unica acqua presente in selva. Bejugo de agua.Oh yes, it happens to take lessons. It happens and how. The first lesson was given to us by the weather. Has entered what here they call "norte". A cold wind from the north that brings rain and moisture from the Pacific. So we understand that we can not always decide by ourself what to do and where to do it. We must first ask for permission to nature. The second lesson was dictated by the cave. We make plans, we decide dates you move to other places. Then you pass a little lake and a dark huge and deep "force" you to change all planes. In Montebonito perhaps the ropes will not be enough. Or so we all hope.
