Sunday were identified several meanders both upstream and downstream of the camp. The day had as main purpose to study the potential of the Gorner cryo-karstic in 2014 that looks pretty interesting despite the summer season rather unusual for temperatures and precipitation. Have been identified at least 4 sub-glacial cavity (meanders with little deepening) and spite of the strong fusion during the central hours of the day, were explored for several hundred meters. Yesterday (very early) 4 different groups explored and surveied these cavities. My impression and that of the veterans of the explorations of this glacier is that there is a strong reduction of the cryo-karstic phenomenon and a decrease in the size of the cavities perhaps due to a greater surface fracturing and for the expansion of the debris morainic masses that intercept a large portion of the fusion waters.

The international camp already counts 17 people between Italian and English. The weather that does not promise anything good yesterday opened at 10 allowing us to fly by helicopter wrapped in a surreal light! Today we begin the scientific exploration activities! The first International Glacier Caving Camp is about to begin. The organizers Alessio Romeo and Francesco Sauro are traveling to the Gorner Glacier having recovered material in the warehouse of La Venta.
Today, the helicopter will bring to the glacier logistical materials and food for the 40 participants who will take turns in the 10-day range. The 18th twenty cavers will begin exploration of the ice caves.
At The camp will participate Italian, French, British, Swiss and Hungarians. The exploration of the glaciers continues to open new doors to scientific researches, including such aimed at biological and paleo-climatological studies.

Ancient caves, billion-year-old secrets
Caves are among the last uncharted places on Earth. The caves of the tepuis — the tabletop mountains on the border of Venezuela and Brazil — have been isolated for hundreds of millions of years. Exploring these caves is like stepping back in time to discover clues about Earth’s deep past.
Since 2009, La Venta Geographic Exploration team has led five expeditions into the tepui massifs. We discovered tens of kilometers of underground passages, carved in quartz, hiding mysterious forms of life, new minerals for science, and incredible landscapes. Because of these efforts, local indigenous “Pemon” communities consider these caves the House of the Gods: sacred places where living creatures and crystals are fused in a unique organism.

Immediately transported to a hospital in Lima was diagnosed a fractured vertebra fortunately without spinal cord injury. Now in front of him has 12 weeks to recover.

Rescue operations have pledged 58 Spanish cavers, ten French and Peruvian and the original members of the expedition.

Regarding the cost of everything up to now has been spent over 131 thousand euro (90% in costs of moving) and still do not know what it will cost in total the return.

From Friday 19th we are anxious for an accident in a cave in Peru. The wounded man is Cecilio Lopez Tercero, Spanish of Madrid strong caver and cave-diver, who often collaborated with La Venta in Mexico and Uzbekistan. The news coming and that we invite you to follow in the blog opened bi friends of Madrid are increasingly encouraging.
But the fact remains that this is a particularly complicated rescue operation for the conditions of Cecilio (stable but we do not know the exact extent of the injury until they come out of the cave), for the depth of the cave (400 meters from the news received), and by the fact that the area is remote and difficult to access.
The Peruvian cavers are already active in the operations together with a large group of French who live for some time in Peru and who are experts for rescue in caves. They're also coming up on site Spanish cavers already departed and others are ready to do so. The National Rescue Italian team was contacted but for the moment it is in stand-by waiting to see if they will need another team.
The Madrid group has opened a subscription to help financially those who went to Peru (own expense). The cost of the intervention will not be low, and therefore those who want to help will be welcome (always at this web address data for subscription).
