Fresh News reaches us by Umberto Del Vecchio, Barbara Mancini and Ferdinando Valentino, the three Italians who participate at the international expedition Myanmar 2014.
February 7. Village of Leili. We have been here four days, guests of the local monastery. We have worked to explore and to the relief the cave of Namun Spring, which was known only in the main branch. In three days we checked all possible passages and branches: despite the huge effort and almost 500 meters explored between non-fossil and active sections, we did not reveal anything significant. The cave can therefore be considered closed, and for that matter in a few months it will be really: the whole area will be completely flooded. The local authorities are carrying out a large dam that will close the valley to produce electricity for the new capital of Myanmar. The flooding of the valley will make the cave inaccessible and will destroy several square kilometers of forest, forcing the two hundred thousand inhabitants of the area to move elsewhere.

In a cave on the coast of Sumatra stratigraphy studies reveal past tsunamis.
As we have often said one of the peculiarities of the caves is to preserve, as if they were the archives of the time, news of past events very well due to their stability and difficult accessibility.
In this nice article BBC (English) a confirmation of this.
