The 21st March 2013, the International Day of Forests (proclaimed by the FAO) marks the fifth anniversary of the project Viva La Ceiba!, launched by La Venta to contribute to the reforestation of a portion of Selva El Ocote (Chiapas, Mexico), partially damaged by fires and indiscriminate cut.
From five years now, La Venta collects voluntary subscriptions aimed at the "adoption" of one or more plants of Ceiba, which in fact are planted in portions of forest land that the association buys to rescue them from the indiscriminate cut.
One of the most important things that the association La Venta has put in place for the protection of Selva El Ocote is the establishment of the Reserva La Venta, a plot of land in the municipality of Cintalapa de Figueroa, about 80 km from Tuxtla Gutiérrez, the capital of state of Chiapas. In collaboration with the municipality and the Reserva de la Biosphere Selva El Ocote, in the same area also will be built in short the Documentation Center of the karst of Rio La Venta, dedicated to the study and preservation of one of the most diverse and interesting karst areas in the world.
