Approaching Baisun

Il muroThe expedition (consisting of 4 Italians, 11 Russians and 1 German) has finally begun with the long climb to BaisunTau.
After endless practices for customs clearance of heavy equipment and for access to the areas to explore, about three o'clock last night, started the first part of approach with the mules.
Yesterday afternoon Tullio, thanks to satellite Intermatica, called to tell us that they arrived at the intermediate camp and that this morning they start again towards the wall. Yesterday was difficult today will be tough! Among other things, the last 700 meters of ascent, which are of stony ground almost vertical, must have them without the aid of the mules and then definitely must go up and down more than once.

Greetings from Tashkent

tashkent_bagabliWe arrived in Tashkent...
The major novelty is that our luggage Tuesday at the departure remained in Rome. Everything! Personal and social bags. Total 6 sacks for which we also paid an extra charge of 380 Euro!!!
And from that moment things went worse and worse...
We send you a significant photo, for now, of the mission in Uzbekistan: Tono and Umberto sat at the office of Turkish Airlines in Tashkent, not waiting to find out when they get the 6 sacks but WHERE they are.
Starting from the surreal arrival at the airport in Tashkent, an incredible place, on Wednesday morning. things went complicating.
Fortunately we had the assistance before of Gulnaz and then now also of Vadim and Tonia, but the Uzbek bureaucracy has beaten up.

Congress in Brno, summary analysis

Il cristallo di Naica sull'ingresso alle saleIt was concluded the 16th International Congress of Speleology that took place from July 20 to 28 in Brno in Czech Republic. Our compliments to the organization, truly impeccable in managing over 1100 participants from around the world. We felt the thrill of caving experience as a living movement that is changing the geography of the world. A lot of presentations and of very high level. We also, like La Venta, have made ??an important contribution. The presentations of Kronio, Tepui, Naica, the Philippines and Patagonia have aroused a lot of interest. During the conference on Imawarì Yeuta the largest hall of the congress was full (more than two hundred people), and the questions were many, with people who have declared themselves "astonished", exposed by this discovery.

News by the Congress in Brno

Il cristallo gigante di NaicaHere is going very well for La Venta. We have a nice stand together with the Italian Speleological Society, highly visited thanks to LED panels with many photos of various expeditions. The first day we also have impressed everyone with the setting up of a giant poster of the Naica crystal now flying above the main entrance of the fair. Regarding the presentations, we had the first scientific comparisons on the Tepui, with the report on the Cueva Guacamaya, very well received, then Giovanni Badino with Kronio, Paolo Forti and Jose Maria Calaforra with Iran. Yesterday pause for the excursion and today was taken up with a number of our projects: Uzbekistan at the session on the most important explorations, then Calaforra, Sanna, Gazquez and Forti on some scientific aspects of Naica, while Badino present the report of Leo Piccini and Marco Mecchia on the Perito Moreno.

Technical report Photoscurion 1500 – Kronio Project 2012

kronioIn the course of the Kronio Project (link) the association La Venta has carried out a functionality test on the brand new “Photoscurion” lamp inside the Stufe di San Calogero in Sciacca (Agrigento – Italy), a thermal cave with a temperature of 37 °C and 100% humidity. In this extreme environment, back in November 2011, another test had been carried out on Scurion lamps in order to verify their resistance to heat exposure (see link); this time the test aimed at checking the functionality of the new model optimized for video and photographic shooting.
In order to use the lamp both for progression and as shooting light, we built a helmet hooking system made of frame and springs.
Originally, the lamp develops a full power of 1500 lumen, but the new light globe causes a slight absorption.
