The Italian Speleological Society ETS and La Venta APS launch the "Giovanni Badino International Speleological Award"
Bologna, September 2024 – The Italian Speleological Society Third Sector Organization (SSI ETS) and the Geographical Exploration Association La Venta APS (La Venta APS) are pleased to announce the launch of the "Giovanni Badino International Speleological Award". This award is dedicated to the memory of Giovanni Badino, an Italian physicist, speleologist and explorer, whose career was characterized by an extraordinary passion for cave exploration and scientific research in the field of speleology.
The award, which amounts to €2,500.00, aims to support advanced research projects in the speleological sector, promoting innovation and excellence in the exploration and study of underground environments. The candidate projects must demonstrate an innovative approach in scientific methodologies and techniques, with a significant contribution to the knowledge of speleology at an international level.
Giovanni Badino: a pioneer of speleology
Giovanni Badino, born in 1953 and passed away in 2017, was a leading figure in the Italian and international scientific and speleological panorama, a pioneer of modern speleology. After starting his academic career in the field of cosmic ray physics, he dedicated much of his life to the study of physical phenomena in the subsurface, such as the dynamics of underground fluids and hypogean meteorology. His ability to integrate scientific knowledge and passion for exploration contributed to a new understanding of glacial speleogenesis and made complex scientific concepts accessible to the general public through conferences, essays and books.
Requirements and evaluation of projects
The call for the Giovanni Badino International Speleological Award is open to individual speleologists or working groups who present projects already completed or in the final development phase. The projects will be evaluated by a scientific committee based on their originality, innovation, clarity of scientific and technical objectives, and their contribution to scientific knowledge in the sector.
Terms of participation
Proposals must be sent by November 15, 2024 in PDF format to the email address segreteria@socissi.it, complete with all the information requested in the call. The results will be announced by December 31, 2024.
