At this time in Manaus, the capital of the Brazilian state of Amazonas, we are in 9 including 4 italians of La Venta and 5 brazilians cavers from various places of this huge South American country.
Our goal is to reach the Tepui Araca located at 4 days from where we are.
This area was flown over the past year to study its potential.
We expect about 3 days by boat, between slow and crowded ferries, barges smaller to medium-sized rivers and lastly streamlined motor launches for most dry and tortuous traits. Then in about a day of walking we will reach the top of the plateau at about 1100 m altitude aided by four carriers and a couple of local guides.
The area where we are heading, in terms of caving, was seen in the past by mixed expeditions of Italians (of AKAKOR association) and Brazilians cavers, and it is from these expeditions that has been explored the cave Guy Collet, the deepest of Brazil, about 670 m deep. Since there is no adequate documentation our group will have the purpose to realize a photograpic documentation as well as a more accurate geological observation of the cave.
A recognition of the plateau will be used to identify other entrances in the hope of being able to also explore (time permitting), verifying the practicability or not of the tepui walking!
The expedition will stop about 6 days on the mountain and will be out of Manaus for about 15 days.
La Venta participants: Martino Frova, Luca Imperio, Pier Paolo Porcu, Alessio Romeo.
