In two days of activity many researches and explorations have been accomplished. The rocky surface has been cleaned, revealing the presence of 11 footprints, organized in two different tracks. There were probably two different dinosaurs as suggested by the shape of the footprints and the length of the step. The surface have been documented trough a photographic survey that will allow the paleontologist Matteo Belvedere of the Geoscience department of the university of Padua to realize a tridimensional model of the surface and to analyze with care the footprints.
Many efforts have been spent for the explorations of caves and abysses. On the north-west wall, with a descent of almost 200 meters, the speleologists Antonio De Vivo from Treviso reached a big cave, facing almost 1000 meters of wall. A wonderful window on the Dolomites.
In the Caregon, the speleologists of the group from Padua tried to descend two new abysses, big fractures of 50-60 meters of depth obstructed by ice and stones. There’s still the big pit of the abyss of Mount Pelmo to visit again, descended only partially by the Schio speleological group and by the Proteo speleological club in 2000, a chasm of unknown depth, probably over 300 meters.
The days of work were exceptional about the weather profile: all the valleys and mountains underneath were covered with mist, only the peak of Pelmo stayed above a sea of clouds. During the research the director Enzo Procopio from Treviso carried forward the filming of a documentary about the Giauli, goblins product of the art of the sculptor Mauro Thunder Olivotto. But not only, to make the dinosaur footprints stand out, Mauro Thunder has created a wooden dinosaur, 4 meters tall and called Ebelis, a sculpture in a material totally biodegradable that now can be seen with binoculars on the top of the Pelmo from Cortina and from the villages of the Boite valley.
A project of enhancement of one of the most famous and spectacular mountains in Italy, a magic place that has many mysteries still to reveal.
The exploration was supported by the technical partners Dolomite, Ferrino, De Walt and Bialetti.
