The first at La Florida Colony, to complete the maps of many caves explored there in November and try to explore many others indicated and not seen for a lack of time. This team soon will split to send to Nueva Jerusalem a group to explore the resurgence of San Vicente found last year on the walls on the orographic left of the Rio. From the news they have sent trough satellite phones they are exploring much.
The third team moved to the Ranchito (operative base where La Venta is trying to bring back to life the virgin forest with the project “Plant a Ceiba”). Here as first activity we explored a new cave in the zone Carranza, found in the pre-expedition and called Cueva del Hormiguillo (in the tzotzil language: Ch’en Xinich t’e) mapping over a km of galleries and having to stop in the principal and in several lateral branches where we met pits, without any material to descend them. But the magnificence of the salons and the constant air flow promise great satisfaction for the future.
Then we started the speleology course for the staff of the Reserva El Ocote and for some teens of the near colonies. These courses (already at fourth edition) are creating a local audience interested and skilled that soon, we are sure, will explore and know better their territory where we are guest from many years and giving a future to the speleology of this area independently from us. It could seem strange but, probably, it’s the nicest and most satisfactory exploration.
At the same time we began the diving in the siphon of the Cueva del Naranjo where the divers reached 235 meters of depth. They arrived in a room with air but it’s a pocket. They have to go beyond! While they were waiting for the mud to sediment they came two days at the Florida for a diving in that zone.
The Costa Rica group since tomorrow will be camping at the Cueva del Rio La Venta where in some days somebody will complete the transverse route. In the meantime we will take the opportunity for a quick course of self-rescuing.
Fresh news soon!
